Jay Spanton

Jay began working life in Sales and Marketing within the Car Industry. In 2000 he joined the then unknown eBay to start-up it's eBay Motors business in the UK. After three years of hyper-growth he moved into eBay's Search team managing a variety areas: site navigation, search engine optimisation (SEO), taxonomy and onsite search. During this time he also ran extensive user research into search usability, user behaviour and visual and interactive design.

After nearly 9 years with eBay he took redundancy and started spanton.co.uk where he could share the things he'd learnt at eBay. He has an MBA from Warwick Business School and a BA History from Essex. He is married to Clare and has 2 children.

Clare Spanton

Clare's career began at the BBC within the Lighting department scheduling the lighting resources for the film department at the old Ealing Studios. After that she set up the administrative side of a new company 'Focus in Education' providing training videos for teachers and governors. From there she moved the global IT consultancy EDS as an administrator within the Corporate Communications department. She moved up the ranks to become a business researcher and analyst, specialising in competitor analysis. She was with the company for 10 years before leaving to start a family.

Throughout her life she has been keen artist, becoming a talented illustrator/ painter as well as producing a range of crafts, with a particular interest in recycling materials. With a natural eye for colour and design she gets involved in some of the web design side of the business. She has a BA in Classics from Warwick University and is married to Jay and has 2 children.
